Hi guys,

Have a problem I can't figure out.
I just installed Win XP Home yesterday and I noticed that everytime I switch between users the resolution changes to the lowest setting and it cannot be changed back.
When I reboot all is ok but obviously I don't want to restart everytime another user wants to use the computer.

Any idea what might be the problem?

You probably need to install / reinstall the drivers for you graphix card.

Running windows update might pick them up if you do not have a disk.

Alternativly try visiting the manufacturers website.

Greg Palmer's advice is solid, as the native drivers included in XP are several years old in most cases.

You can assertively specify a display resolution that will be "sticky" between users if you experience continuing issues with the display adapter after installing updated drivers. This often helps Games and other softwares that are not very polite about restoring the default screen resolution when they exit.

From the remarkable Kelly Theriot comes these practical suggestions:

Search the page for: Lock Refresh Rates under Windows XP

Other steps you may need to take to force the display settings:

1. Start/Run/Regedit and Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\VIDEO\{3A2C2EBE-ECDB-4A7B-99EC-
58117AFDC5E2}\0000\Mon22446688

2. Find 'DefaultSettings.XResolution'. That is your y axis. Edit as a Decimal to what you want it to be. IE 1152.

3. Find 'DefaultSettings.YResolution'. That is your x axis. Edit as a decimal to what you want it to be. IE 863.

4. Reboot.

Or... in the alternative:

Start/Run/Regedit: HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Display\Settings. In the right pane, right click Resolution, modify, 800,600.
