Is there any registry setting that I can set to reserve certain letters so that they don't get assigned to USB devices or other physical devices so that they can be reserved for mapped drives?

We have a problem with some users who have a drive mapping to F: but when they plug in a USB device it is also trying to take F:. I've done a google on this and discovered that windows is designed this way (pretty bad design I think myself). So I want to know if there's a way I can say use letters J: and above for USB devices or better still, do not use the following letters.

Can anybody help out with this?

there was a very lengthy thread about this very issue 1-2 mos. ago here (cant find link, sorry) -- but the general consensus there was, theres really no way to reserve those letters. the suggestion coming out of that thread was to switch the network drives to higher letters, allowing the usb drives to take the low letters at will.
