I know what the manufacturers say. But before I "go to the well" to get the money to upgrade my PC, I'd like some practical knowledge about what CPU/Memory/Disk Space/Etc. are needed to create a virtual network consisting of three Windows 2003 servers to do my studying on...

Or should I just buy three older boxes and a hub? I really don't want to buy more junk I'm just going to have to recyucle...

What are your recommendations? Is a 2.2GHz Celeron enough or do I need a P4 3.6GHz CPU? What about RAM? Is 256MB each Virtual Server enough or do I need 3GB on the PC hosting them? I have a couple of more than half-empty 40GB 7200 RPM drives... Will than negatively affect me? Do I need 2 physical LAN cards? etc...

Looking forward to your replies!!!

The Celeron will work ok. But it's going to be VERY slow. If you are going to go the VM ware route I've beef up the box. The most cpu, and ram that you can afford.

Failing that I'd just pick up some junk machines from somewhere.

I have a Celeron 1.3GHz with 768MB Ram... one Virtual device will run; but poorly...
