Here are some ways to make the report more compact.
1) In design on the report, use the View menu to turn off "Show Data" so you can see the field boundaries clearly.
2) Check the File menu, Page setup to make sure your margins and paper size, orientation, etc are correct.
3) Check the footer to see if the "page number" is in the first page area or outside of it. If it is outside, move it back in the first page boundary.
4) Now you can move the fields into the first page area one at a time. In this mode, you will need to move the column headers one at a time also. You can resize fields if needed.
5) Check the header to make sure all text blocks are entirely within the first page boundary. Note that Edit, Select All will show you all fields and their boundaries so you can check for anything extending to the right side into a second page.
