Report Snaking not working like I hoped

I have a report That I want to look like this:

Group Header
Detail Detail Detail Detail
Group Header
Detail Detail

So I have tried a number of different combos for setting up columns and nothing is working. I grabbed some samples from Microsoft that claimed to do this, but when I ran them the didn't work. KB 231806. Down then across with new row after the header, but that keeps starting a new page. When I do across and down the details are in the same row as the group header. I would have been done hours ago with crystal. Any suggestions would be helpful. Oh ya this report will be used as a subreport. I saw somthing about columns not working right in subreports. Any info on that would be helpful as well.
