Version: Crystal Reports 8.5.0.217 Developer
Updates: the latest database driver update only
RDE version: 8.0.0.4 - downloaded from Crystal
Windows version: XP Pro

I am attempting to run the Report Distribution Expert, and it shuts down every time that I try to advance past the Options tab. It doesn't seem to matter what options are selected or what reports I try to compile/distribute. It shuts down and displays the wonderful Windows message:

"Report Distribution Expert has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

...and reports an error in dexpert.exe.

I've tried dbase-based reports, SQL Server-based reports, and the sample reports that come with CR. Same result - dexpert.exe crashes every time. I've tried reinstalling the RDE, reinstalling CR, etc., etc., and still no resolution.

The strange thing is that it worked fine until fairly recently, within the past month or so. A couple of my customers are experiencing the same problems on different platforms (NT 4.0 and Win 2000.)

I've also tried earlier versions of the RDE and even tried reinstalling CR 7.0 and using that RDE. Same problem.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
