Reply Address in Excahnge 5.5

I have an exchange server that sends out smtp mail out externally.

The person who recieves the mail sees the address as an X400 address. When they relpy the user gets a message saying destination undeliverable.

Under the email addresses tab of mailboxes all the address are in bold. and i cannot select just smtp as a reply address.

Any ideas?
