Good morning all;

I have a problem replicating in my domain i had this before and did all kind of stuff and i dont know what was the trick that made it stop so maybe one of you guys have had the same.

When i run dcdiag i get this error:

Naming Context: CN=Configuration,DC=ea,DC=kwe,DC=com
The replication generated an error (1818):
The remote procedure call was cancelled.

Please advice

Best regards larsdemo

Just have modified the RPC Replication Timeout (mins) the default op rpc timeouts is 5 min in 2003, set it to 45 see what happens.

replication is going gooed now, only thing is i see "servernaam is the Schema Owner, but is not responding to LDAP Bind" for all 4 roles that the server holds. What could be the problem here ?

Good morning guys iI'll hope someone can help me out on this one, I am having the following situation;

One single domain multiple site forrest, all site's dc's dhcp dns, all server 2003 xp clients, all sites have a site link to the main offoce so the main office is the hub site in replication, this works fine for a year now. This is what i get when i do a dcdiag on one dc that holds all the FSMO roles for the domain.

Starting test: KnowsOfRoleHolders
[SERVER1] LDAP bind failed with error 1053,
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion..
Warning: SERVER1 is the Schema Owner, but is not responding to LDAP Bind.
Warning: SERVER1 is the PDC Owner, but is not responding to LDAP Bind.
Warning: SERVER1 is the Rid Owner, but is not responding to LDAP Bind.
Warning: SERVER1 is the Infrastructure Update Owner, but is not responding to LDAP Bind.

When i want to add a user to the callers in pc-anywere (it may go look for the group he is in on the SERVER1 i'll guess) pc-anywere say's "the remote procedure call failed, this is one of the symptoms.

Please help me out regards lars

I really have no clue, but as far as troubleshooting, the best clues are usually a result of asking "what has changed between now and when the computer was working fine". Have you applied any patches, automatic updates, new software? Have you made any configuration settings to anything?

A+/MCP/MCSE/MCDBA

I mean change the connection to use IP instead of RPC

Dont see that option, it's IP or SMTP dont's see no RPC.

You right click on the auto generated connection select properties..it's in the Transport portion.

Guess it's fixed though. Sometimes RPC is not the best choice for the connection.

Ok i see that the intrasite replication is rpc in my AD and the intersite replication is IP, cool i did not know you can change that in the 'automaticaly generated' inbounds tnxs!

yeah it forces you to rename the connection from automatically to whatever...

Is there any way to force the kcc to automaticaly generate inbouds when you delete the hand made connections. My co worker in england makes inbound connections all the time and i dont want him so i delete them ones in a while :) the only thing is i need to wait for an hour or so.
In my opinion its better to let AD handle that stuff in stead of making them connections manual.

An other question is about how i have handled my replication.

I have a "main" office and lots of branche offices. the way i replicate is; i made site links and they all connect one brach to the main ;

branch1<->main
branch2<->main
branch3<->main
branch4<->main

Like that, is that a good way to do it, and is that what they call a hub topologie ?

Regards and many thanxs Lars

I think the command is repadmin /kcc to recreate the connectors.
Sometimes the KCC does not create the best path for replication which is why there is the option to adjust the transport.
Yes your setup is classified as hub spoke, every site connects directly to your main. That is a fine setup....the other is mesh where sites piggyback off of each other for info from the main. Both work fine the latter depends on your network topology...if all sites talk to each other.
Hub spoke gives you a little more control.

option to adjust the transport"

What you mean by that ?

Where you change it from RPC to IP or SMTP. Those are the transports.

oke thans!

i have read about replication and how it exactly works for two day's now and i learned a lot about it.

This was the most usefull link i have read.

there is one more thing i cant figure out.
i want to use replmon to sent a mail to me when my replication is not good. this is a default option in replmon only it gives me the error collaborative data objects not installed please configure....

i am searching for two hours now but cant fint howto install this, you may happen to know how this can be installed please ?

Regards and thanxs for all the answers.
