My Generic no name computer has the video built on the motherboard. I want to swap it out with a state-of-the-art AGP ATI Video Card.

Is there something to disable on the board or in the bios before I install the new card?

No manual for the motherboard I assume... You could try to identify the motherboard and go the the manufacturer's website and download a copy of the manual.

Try looking closely at the motherboard for an ENABLE/DISABLE ON-BOARD VIDEO jumper. If it's a fairly modern board, the BIOS may automatically switch output when a card is plugged in.

Possibly the BIOS, look around in there for the setting.
"state-of-the-art AGP" is an oxymoron, as all upper crust cards are PCI-E, but CPU magazine had a review this month of AGP video cards. Top scorers were Sapphire's Radeon X1650 PRO:

e-GeForce 7800 GS CO Edition:

and XFX's GeForce 7600GT:

They all performed relatively well and all have 256MB GDDR3 memory. Since AGP is a legacy interface I would spend the least possible, as you probably won't be able to take it with you when you update your MB. I would pick the XFX 7600GT, it smoked the ATI for only a few $$$ more.

Good video card choices
To ADD!

There are a few other things to consider!

Is your power supply up to the job?
400watts plus for most of these cards
Is your system compatible with these newer cards?

To that end, it is always useful to post your system specs in your first post so that you get accurate replies.
Just a bug bear of mine!
