Replacing dead DNS Server

I have a small network (50 pcs), with 3 DCs. One of the DCs was the DNS server and the DHCP server. The machine suddenly died on me, and I had to rebuild the machine. My problem is that there is currently no DNS server, so I can't run DCpromo, and when I run the DNS server on this machine, it still does not work. The other DCs didn't weren't DNSs

How can I get the DNS server working again as it once did?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

**Okay, have you tried rebooting the machine?**

Install DNS on one of the other DC's and point the machine you're rebuilding to it after you set up the zone(s).

Did you do backups of the server? Were you backing up the System32 directory? You may be able to recover your DHCP lease tables as well if you were.

I decided to put the server back up with the old drives, then install dns on another machine, let it replicate, then replace the old bad drive.

Apologies if that doesn't make any sense.
