crazy99, you are pushing it with Windows XP. Windows XP runs best with at least a 1000MHz processor and 256+ MB RAM.
Your right about Me- it is a very bad OS. You can try Windows 98.
I would upgrade the RAM to 256 and put Windows 2000 on if I were in your position. Windows 2000 uses less resources.

I installed Winxp pro on my wife's old 300 mhz 128mb ram computer. It runs much better than I thought it would. She mainly uses the computer for internet and word processing. It's not uncommon for her to be running 4 or 5 IE windows as well as word or excell. Never crashes or freezes. I would say with a 600 mhz you will have no problems at all.

The machine is capable of running XP (barely), the problem you will encounter is that you have the real bare minimum of memory to run XP "128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)"

So why would you want to run an operating system that is running on the minimum amount of RAM for it to function? I dont think it will be an enjoyable user experience. Windows 98SE is more suited to the spec of your machine and is better (in my opinion) than ME. So I would go for that. What possible benefits are you expecting to get from XP that you wouldnt in 98SE?

I have run Windows XP on a 300mhz laptop with 64mb ram for testing purposes. It didnt run superbly but it was useable. If you are going to install it, i would recommend turning off some of the "flashy" visual effects to help with the speed, but i won't say you shouldnt do it, because XP is so much more advanced than 98 or ME.
