Hi.
The Tapedrive in the old Mermail is defective, and I need to replace it.
Drive is an old SLR-type, marked 150MB.
Think it's a MM8, and it sits in an IDE-shelf.
Can I replace it without powering down the whole mailsystem?
It's a single mail, no shadowing. Just one tape and one harddrive.
Not sure if the harddrive will survive a coldstart :-(
And also, can I use a newer tapedrive? say SLR4 or 5???

Yes you can replace with a SRL4 or 5 you have to anyway when migrate to callpilot. And yes you have to shut down Voice-mail.

geirendre...the SLR 4 tape drive is what you need.the
mermail will not backup to a SLR 5 it cannot read the
tape.

Thanks for the help :)
OK, so i need to locate a spare SCSI-disk and the install-tape
and key-codes, just in case the old disk don't survive the restart.

But how can I tell an SLR4 from an SLR5?
I have a used Tandberg drive marked SLR4/8 that i hope
to use as an replacement.

geirendre...that one will work

Uhh OK.
I just put the Drive in a PC with SCSI controller to test it,
and the controller identified it as a SLR5 unit.

The unit is working, tested with retension and rewinding tape,
and write to and read back from the tape.

But will it work when it's a SLR5?
