Hello

In an small network finally the step from BNC to TP 100MBit is going to be made.
The Network consists of 1 Win2000 Server who is DNS-Server, hosts Active Directory etc. and some clients. The Clients are Windows 2000 and Windows NT.

Now I have some questions:

1. Replacing the NICs on Windows NT.
I install the new card, deinstall the old one, set up the new card (IP, DNS, etc) and thats it ?
Or should I take the Client out of the domain first ?

2. Replacing the NIC on Windows 2000 Server.
Here I am not sure what to do without making me to much trouble. I would like not to have to much reconfiguration to do. Should I install the new one, deinstall the old and then it works ?
I could not find information about this on the net.
If I missed a Site, please tell it to me :)

If you know what to do in my case, please tell me either :)

Thank you !

Greetings,
Benjamin

I was about to post a question about the procedure for replacing a NIC on a Windows 2000 Server with Active Directory, WINS and DHCP installed. It has a static IP of 192.168.0.150. If I uninstall it and install the new one with the same static IP will I lose all my previous Active Directory, DNS, WINS, DHCP settings?

If you found out the best procedure please let me know. I am also going to submit this same question as a new post.

IF it were me i would ADD a new nic giving it a ip on the same range as the current card if its x.x.x.1 then the new card id set to x.x.x.2

on the DHCP mmc select properties then the advanced tab and select the new nic to service clients .then change the scope options to set the new cards IP as the gateway and DNS, WINS if used and exclude the old IP and the new one.

on the DNS mmc select properties set listen to the new cards IP

on each client id do a ipconfig release then shutdown the client . Then disable the old card in the server and shut down the server.
bring back up the server when its fully up start the clients.

PS .remember to change the gateway address of any device with static set IPs (printers, ect)

hope it helps
