Hi,

I have very old 2000 DC and will buy a new server with 2003 server. What is the good way to migrate/upgrade 2000 DC to 2003 DC? In the 2000 DC, I have DNS & DHCP there. I don't need this old server any more. Just need to transfer AD to 2003 DC and let 2003 DC take over the job then will shut down 2000 DC.

Many thanks in advance!

One way would be to upgrade your w2k server to 2003 then add the new server and transfer roles.

Before installing, read these documents to make sure you're not going to have any problems.

Hi All,

Thanks for recommendation!

I still have some questions.
Can I add a new windows 2003 server to the network act as Replication Partner domain controller and all AD database should be transfer to windows 2003 server. Can I paralle use two DCs (w2k & w2k3) at the same time? I only need to transfer DNS & DHCP to the 2003 server.

Is it a good idea?

Please advise!

Thanks again!

Yes you can. If you read through the links Pat provided you will find out how to as well.
