Hi,

One of our users has had a scsi card installed on a new PC. It seem's to install ok and and does not bring up any errors, however each time the pc is restarted it keeps detecting new hardware thinking the card is not installed and it is installed and working fine, why is it doing this and is there a way to stop it doing this?

Win 2k SP4 PC btw.

Cheers

First see if there is an updated driver set. There could be a mistake in the .inf file in regards to regestering the device with Windows.

What does Device Manager say about the device? If it appears without warnings or error messages in Device Manager, click the Driver tab and try the Upgrade option. Point at the correct driver set and let it reinstall.

If no joy from an Upgrade, use Device Manager to uninstall the device, and do a full New Hardware Wizard rededection on reboot.

Hi bcastner,

Sorry, I should have gave more information, but in response to you, I have tried both of these things before posting. The hardware in the device list appears working fine and no conflicts. I have pointed to the cd drivers but it is happy with the current drivers installed. I have tried a full re-install, but it persist's in wanting to re-install, any other idea's?

Cheers

What does the registry look like here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\SCSIADAPTER

Like this:

Not sure why you have a duplicate entry for the scanner, but it might be related.

The key I wanted was the SCSI adapter:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\SCSIADAPTER

Yes, sorry, I could not see that key there :S ?

OK, since I was on the machine earlier it is now decided it is happy that the card is installed and it is now not bringing up the wizard, how strange. Well, looks like it is happy now so will leave it and see how it goes, thank's for all your suggestions as usual though ;)

Threating to run Devcon.exe has that effect on some machines.

Best wishes,
