I have re-installed my Win 2K Professional and the problem persists so I am guessing that this problem is somewhere within MS Office 2000 or its registry settings.

When I launch various functions/applications such as Windows Search, or some of my other applications, I get a small window indicating the MS Office 2000 is attempting to install.

Since I already installed Office 2000 and it appears to work fine, I cannot understand why this continues to re-appear and attempts to re-execute the installation.

I even tried to do what the system was asking, I did re-install MS Office 2000 and the problem returned after a re-boot.

One additional configuration note - I installed MS Word & Excel via a MS Office Small Business CD and then later installed MS Access from a MS Office Professional CD.

Maybe some setting in the Windows 2000 Registry is wrong.

Your suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
jrbbldr

See "thread68-98950" which deals with the same problem.

Thanks Branlon for the response.

I went to that thread and I did see where many others have experienced the same problem.

However on reading what was there, the majority of those with the problem were unable to solve it and the listed link to Microsoft does not work.

I have installed the Win 2K Service Patch level 2 and attempted to un-install and then re-install Office 2000 -- the problem did not resolve itself.

So, I again ask - does anyone have a solution or recommendation for this problem?

To others who might be encountering the same, or similar, problem......

After reading a thread on the Windows 2000 Professional forum I think that I have found the answer.

On the other forum, the person found out that one of his DLL files had gotten "un-registered" when he applied a Service Patch to Windows 2000.

After exhausting the other possibilities, I thought that perhaps I might be encountering something similar.

By following the below steps, in order, I appear to have fiinally resolved the problem.

1. Un-install MS Office 2000 entirely
2. Using a registry editor remove all references to Office
3. Using RegClean, fix registry problems
4. Using Norton Utilities, fix remaining registry problems
5. Re-Install Win 2000 Prof.
6. Install Windows 2000 Service Pack
7. Install MS Office

This has been a time consuming process, but it does appear to have cleared up the problems. If we could have pin-pointed the specific cause of the problem, many (most??) of these steps could have been avoided.

Good Luck,

I'm not plugging a product, but Norton Utilities would probably clean up the problem. You may be able to download a free demo.

Not quite sure how 100% proof thi is, but have you tried installing the Microsoft Clip5 galery to the hard disk as opposed to using it's default ssetting (run from disk)?
This "should" remove the need to re-insert the CD etc.

Try it and see how it works.
