I've been following the procedure outlined in article 313184

I ran eseutil /mh on the database files, which showed a dirty shutdown.

I then ran the soft repair on the database file E00 which reset the status to clean.

I Then defragmented the database, not realizing that it says to skip that step if the previous one was successful.

Now when I try to mount the database as requested (which I assume is done simply by running the information store) it gives the Could not start exchange information store, specific error code 0.

I this because I defraged when I wasn't supposed to?

i can't help you there, but this might help your bigger picture. can you create a new database and move the mailboxes to the new one? if you can you might be able to avoid the issue of repairing the database.
just a suggestion
