I need to do an install repair of my XP SP3 system, and am using the original CD I received - believe it is SP1 level. It reloads everything down to where it is cleaning up temporary files and time left indicates 1 minute - then goes no further. Left it set overnight with no change. Tried deleting the catroot2 folder, and all files in temp directories - but no help. The last lines in setupact.log seems to indicate a problem with the Microsoft XPS Document writer not having been updated correctly. I found a XPS Removal Tool and it indicated success in removing the printer, but still no change in the log file or the results. Short of a clean install, any suggestions?

I'm surprised it got that far. Normally it would complain about incorrect disk.
Why did you want to repair in the first place?
Two ways I would handle this.
1. either slipstream SP3 to XP and try again.
2. Install Windows again in separate directory and backup data including activation files, then format and reload.

And a last resort you may need to flash the BIOS, there could be something causing it to hang. NOTE: You need to be 100% that you have the correct update and no power failures while doing this.
