Hi,

Can I rename USB device names? I have a USB MIDI keyboard which is simple plug'n'play and installs perfectly when connected and everything works and is fine, but in CuBase SX3 this is named 'USB Audio Device'. I also have a USB MIDI control surface, which again installs fine and needs no drivers for XP. I even tried to install the drivers for both bits of hardware but the CD-ROM simply said that for XP i didn't need drivers..

My question is.....

......is there anywhere or anyway i can rename them, as one is named 'USB Audio Device' and the other is 'USB Audio Device (1)', which obviously in the grand scheme of things makes it hard to distinguish which one is which sometimes..

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Paul

Consider this too.

"For all devices except 'Mass Storage' Devices: If you plug a device to one USB port, and then you plug the same device to another USB port, a new record of the same device will be created for each USB port that you plug. So if you see multiple lines for exactly the same device, it means that you plugged it to different USB ports".

You might be able to make some other use of the above utility, from which the above quote derives.

USB forum.

5) In Search Of 'Mystery' Devices

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

You can look around that key for the value "DeviceDesc", but as to fiddling in the Registry and renaming things, I don't know what might happen?
