Hello,

I am in a little bind right now. We would like to change our AD name to something shorter. I know MS have a tool to do that plus 80 page readme docs. Should I use the tool or just create a new AD and delete the old one.

Much thank

Without information about the number of servers, users, computers, GPOs, services, sites etc, it is impossible to make an informed suggestion.

Using the domain rename tool will save the the trouble of setting everything back up, while going with a fresh install will help you ensure that you get everything right from the start. You need to decide for yourself which course of action is best for you.

And you should read that doc before making a decision.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

You may want to consider using a UPN suffix. This way when users log in they can use a shorter domain name. Take a look at this article:

It depends on how large your domain is, if it's very small then a rebuild may be ideal, otherwise this may be a very quick fix.
