I have found several scripts for renaming a computer account in AD but am unable to get them to work I think they need to be run from the server itself. What I need is a script to rename the computer locally and connect to the server and rename the computer in active directory for a windows 2000 pc environment. Does anybody know how to accomplish this?

You can do this with the Netdom utility. Just use the Computername switch.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

isnt that an xp function? my netdom does not have a computername switch

You may need to download the latest copy of netdom. There was an update with Win2K SP4.

version 5.0.2195.6624 im on windows 2000 though are you sure thats not just an xp version?

Hi William, I am not sure either way if that feature is exclusive to XP. Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer.

I do however believe that Microsoft makes NetDom fully backward compatible, so I'd try to secure the version I have and give it a try.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.
