Hi,

I have a problem that is driving me nuts. I have added a mailbox to a user, all is OK, the user can see the mailbox etc. In there Outlook the mailbox is being displayed as mailbox - {display name}, Is there anyway of removing the mailbox so that all that is displayed in outlook is the display name.
So at present it shows as
Mailbox - ABC
and I would like it to be displayed as
ABC
and that's all.
Can this be done, as I have looked in AD and also in Outlook and cant find any options to remove this.

Thanks to anyone that can help me.

That's the way it's displayed.

Just curious, but why do you see this as a problem?

Its not an issue, its just the user has another email box set up the same way and wants them to be all uniform, thats all.
So the users has
Mailbox - Meeting Room 1
Mailbox - Meeting Room 2
Meeting Room 3

Thats to only reason, it works OK, can see the mailbox, just wants the way it is displayed, thats all.

hmmm...so you're saying they have one Exchange mailbox that is listed with just the mailbox name and not the Mailbox designation?

Well I'll be....I'll have to check into this a little I guess...never seen an Exchange mailbox in Outlook without the Mailbox designation.

It sounds like the last one is a personal folder file (PST) to me...

Chack the email accounts/profile settings.

Well, I may have come across the answer by accident while doing some work on my server today.

If the secondary mailbox I open up is in the same store as my main mailbox, it's displayed without the Mailbox designation. If it's in a different store, it's displayed with the Mailbox designation in front.

Check which stores the other mailboxes are in and if the one that displays without the Mailbox designation is in the same store as the users primary mailbox.

I ran into this after I moved our spam filter mailbox to the same store my mailbox is in. Before it displayed as Mailbox - spamfilter. After I moved it I got an error when I tried to open it, so I removed it and re-added it and now it's displayed just as spamfilter.

We only have one exchange server, so its not a case of the mailbox being on a different store.

You can have multiple stores on a single exchange server.

Did you check?

We only have the standard edition of exchange. Yes we only have one store.......becoming a bit of a puzzle this one..

I have multiple ones open on the same store and mine show up with Mailbox in front of all of them. That is very odd, never seen that before.

Have them rename the one w/o the mailbox in it to "Mailbox - Metting Room 3", that'll make it uniform :)

You can have an Exchange mail box but deliver it to a local PST file. When you have email delivered to the mailbox itself, you see Mailbox - Account, but when you have email delivered somewhere OTHER than the mailbox, you won't see the mailbox in front of it.

Good luck.

But as the OP stated, he's not using PST's and has a user with an Exchange mailbox that doesn't have the "Mailbox" in front of it, and I now have one as well.

I have added myself to the Exchange Enterprise Servers. If I right click on any mailbox there is an option to rename the mailbox, but this is greyed out, which admin group do I need to be in, to change the mailbox name designation.
