Rename folder on NW network, files disappear?

dumb question here...

I have a user who renamed a folder on our NW server (ver 5 I believe), and all of a sudden the documents contained w/in that folder had disappeared. Once we changed the name back to what it was originally, the files were visible again.

Why did this happen? Just curious.

The directory path is not too long is it? If the directory path gets too long (255 characters from \\servername\vol1\...) NetWare cannot cope and sometimes diplays that symptom.

Apart from that, was it rights related?
