Hi All,
Has anyone ever managed to successfully rename a service?

Scenario: We have a cluster, with an application installed via both nodes onto a shared drive.

Problem: Services have been generated with different names on each node, therefore the cluster cannot automatically failover. We need to find a way to rename the services on one node to match the other without screwing up dependancies.

Thanks in advance for any help.

In the resource kit, there is a tool called: Service Installer (there is even a Service Installer Wizard). You can use it to add the service with the name you choose. You then can simply turn off the other one. There is also a tool to remove a service... but you might want to wait a bit.

"In space, nobody can hear you click..."

What generated the different names in the first place?

Thanks to RedLefty, we have decided to utilise Srvinstw, however I can't seem to find any way to specify depenencies within the new services, so I guess we'll just have to rely on the cluster to do that for us...

In response to vbrocks, the short answer is, we're not sure - the same installation of the same application simply seems to have generated different service names on each node... I can only presume that the installation itself found differences in environments and changed service names accordingly.
