A number of users and passwords have been set up using the Windows 98
Control panel USERS icon.

1) How do you list the users?

2) How do you remove users?

3) How do you reset the password when you don't know the original password.

The Windows 98 Help system doesn't seem to have any information on this.

Its been a while since ive used Win98 but i thought the Users tab in Win98 listed all the users. Isnt there an option to delete them there ?
If there isnt you can try by going to C:\windows\profiles\ and deleting the users profile out of there. As for reseting there password, is easier. For each user logging on to the computer, in the c:\windows directory there should be a pwl file for every user. It is called <username>.pwl the file may be hidden so set up windows explorer to show hidden files. When u have found the pwl file for that user, delete it. When the user goes to log on next, there password will be blank. Excellent security isnt it!!

I would like to add the following if you're still having problems.

I'm assumming you want to get rid of all users?

First, go to Control Panel>Users and delete the ones you created.

Then go through the following steps.

1. Go to Start>Search>Search for Files & Folders... type in *.pwl and delete all .pwl files in c:\windows

2. Go to Start>Run, type notepad system.ini. Maximize the system.ini
Delete all lines under
[Password Lists]

3. Go to ControlPanel>Network
Choose Windows Logon as Primary Login

Reboot

You should now get the login box one last time. Just click OK for no password. You will now be automatically logged in. Don't do this if you want to restrict others from using your PC.

There is another set of rules for that. If that's what you need, post back.
