Our priv.edb keeps reaching the limit of 16gb and we have to run the purge routine to clean this out. My concern is that items that are purged in the same month that they are created are nver archived in the long term - we keep daily backups for a fortnight and then a monthly backup is retained.

Is there a way to manually purge items from the retention file. I'm thinking that if we can purge all the spam files that mimesweeper has marked up we probably won't have this issue.

If not, any other ideas of how to comply with the legal needs for mail retention but still keep below the 16gb limit ?

Get your users to archive the old emails into PST files that you can store elsewhere. Set your deleted items retention time to a low number. Implement size limits on your users mailboxes through Exchange. Run an offline defrag on your exchange server to reclaim some old space.

if you need some more infor, then let me know
