I've looked in the windows\system(32) folder and there appaers to be two version of the Jet database there.

For example there is an msjet35.dll and an msjet40.dll. The computer I'm working with is giving me an error with the msjet35.dll file.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the 3.5 version? Which files can I delete?

I did a SP update, but the old files are still there.

I wouldn't get rid of it but you can try renaming it and see if it helps. Rename it something like
Oldmsjet35.dll. Then if there is a problem, you can just rename it msjet35.dll
