hi all

I have recently been testing exchange 2007 in a new forest domain. I had a mailbox/hubtransport server in there, all OK. Unfortunatly - it died, and need to be rebuilt from scratch.

I have rebuit and tried to re-install exchange 2007 - it wouldnt let me -saying that only recovery mode was allowed.

Thinking that as it was called the same thing, this might be causing the problem, i changed the name and exchange installed fine.

The only problem, is in exchange console, i can still see the failed server - and the databases that it had before. They no longer exsist

I have removed the mailbox storage group, this was fine, but i cant get rid of the public folders as it cant do it with out mounting the store - which does not exsist!

I basically was the server REMOVED completey from exchange, there is no live data in this forest at all

Can anyone help?

Thank

Ian

I had same issue. I had a crashed install and not being familiar with exchange installed it again uned another name.

Their are two ways that I used to remove the old server info from ad.

1. I used adsiedit to delete all references from the AD.
2. I did a recovery of the old exchange (rebuilt it) and once it was done installing I did a uninstall which removed traces of that server from AD.

This was my post for the issue:
