Removing a child domain controller from AD 1

Here is the situation. We have a root domain and one child domain in our Active directory. Today another person in my department installed another child domain. He then relized that he gave it the wrong name. Rather than running dcpromo, demoting the Dc, changing the name and then repromoting it; he reinstalled the system. so how our domain stuctures have references to it and we are unable to recreated the domain as we get and error when running dcpromo again. I tried deleting the dns setting for this domain and deleted the computer account. but it is still not working. Any help would be great
