I just removed sp2, in order to re-install it, and my wireless mouse and keyboard don't function. I suspect the plug and play and device signing have something to do with it, but I don't have any wired keyboards or a wired mouse in the house. Any suggestions? Anybody else have this problem?

Have you tried to boot into safe mode?
Are they working durning the post?

I can't hit the approprite buttons to get into safe mode. I suspect that since the wireless mouse and keyboard are attached via a usb connection that maybe a direct connection might work, but I'm not positive. Is this true?

I would test if you can enter the BIOS settings. If the keyboard and mouse don't work there its the hardware since Windows is not loaded until after. If you can get into the bios. Windows should allow you to hit F8 when first starting since it has built in USB support.

A friend, or friendly computer repair shop might lend you a mouse or keyboard. I sounds like you are going to need some form of input before you can do anything on that machine? Is it a standalone machine, or is it, or can it, be networked and accessed that way?

mouse and keyboard does not work!!

and you can buy a wired mouse and keyboard for a few pounds (or dollars) - assuming your machine has PS2 connectors, I'd get PS2 mouse/keyboard (in case the issue is with USB - I have seen a number of problems with USB based mice/keyboards).
