Hello all,

I have a situation wherein I receive 'Media is write-protected' error message when using 'PREPARE' option from Removable Storage section of Computer Manager.

1) verified that the Ricoh MP7040A drive exists on Microsoft's Hardware Compatabiliy List. My other Ricoh drive is not so had to migrate it to another computer
2) drive and media work correctly using Roxio Version 5 Platinum.
3) would continue to use Roxio, but Direct Drive software is being REMOVED by the upgrade process to Roxio v5.1; and according to Roxio's web site will no longer be offered AT ALL!
4) I have a new shrink-wrapped box of CD-RW media that I am using for this effort so not damaged media.

General Note: I have been using CD-R and CD-RW disks for archival of downloaded software and documents created for a number of years and would like to continue to do this. Any suggestions/help will be GREATLY appreciated. [2thumbsup]

Addendum to original message: This is a Windows 2000 professional workstation that has had Service Pack 3 installed.

Try to remove the entire Roxio software, then reboot
then re-install it again with Take-Two uncheck

DROP SP3! To many problems I've been hearing about. That would be the first thing I'd try and then use Hungsters method. Glen A. Johnson

Glen that was one of the problem i have on one computer which i actually went to Staples to buy a Platinum edition, and i had to call Tech support to solve that

i personally apply SP3 on Win2k pro, win2k server and so on, i haven't run across one with problem yet.
perhaps Microsoft had wrote a script like WinXP SP1 to terminate and error lol
