I am using Windows 7 and a HP Officejet J6410 printer connected via a USB cable. When I plug in the printer it tries to install the driver however fails.

This appears to be because there are three different printer drivers for the J6410 in my copy of Windows and it tries to install the driver which is not the latest.

In order to get the printer installed correctly I need to add the printer driver manually, and add the most recent driver.

How can I remove the older drivers for the J6410 in Windows 7 so when I plug the printer in it only sees the latest printer driver and installs correctly.

you will most likely have to delete them manually...

drivers are located in the following folders, so navigate there, locate your drivers delete them, reboot, install the latest driver and that should be it...

(you may have to be FULL admin to delete files):

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\DriverStore

or/and

C:\Windows\System32\drivers
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore
