My Toshiba Satellite Pro has Windows XP Home and I use Office XP Pro applications.

My Programs Files directory shows an installation of MS SQL (53.4 mb) with 2 subdirectories (80 & MSSQL), but I don't recall intentionally installing it. I don't know what it is for, and I wonder if I erroneously downloaded some Windows update for SQL that I should not have, or if it came as part of another database program (I use Access).

Can anyone tell me if I should have this on my computer for some reason (any benefit? Does Access need it?)... and how to at least get rid of the icon in my taskbar?

Thanks!
Chris

Right click and select DELETE. I assume that you mean it's in your Quick Launch bar not the icons that represent programs that are running.

It's probably an installation of MSDE, and it probably came with Office XP Pro. When you installed office did you install the Business Contact Manager? If so that uses MSDE as it's database. There's a couple of other options that use it as well I think.

If I'm reading this correctly you want to remove the icon that says that SQL is running from down by your clock? If that is the case, click on Start/Progams/Startup, right click on Service Manager and click delete. The next time you restart the computer the icon won't be there any more.
