We are in the process of removing our 2 G650s. We have no working ip phones. We are CM8.1 with sip trunking. Can i remove the medpros and clans in the g650s. I am not sure what they are used for.
In the older designs, the CM PROCR interface was deliberately protected from the outside world. The purpose of the CLAN (Control Local Area Network) was to provide a publicly available signaling interface. It provided signaling (H.248, H.323, SIP and others) to devices such as IP phones, and Media Gateways. CLANs have been deprecated since about version 6, and signaling now is exclusively through the PROCR interface. They can/should be removed from your system.
Medpro (Media Processors) hosted all the DSPs (digital signal processors) needed to support Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). In other words, they converted the audio to something that could be sent over an Ethernet network. The DSPs would be needed for any of the devices still wired to your G650 cabinet (i.e. Analog Phones, Analog Trunks, Digital phones, ISDN trunks, etc) to be able to talk to other devices in your network.
DSPs also live in your G450s. Assuming you have moved all such TDM devices to your G450s (and there are none still being used in the G650s), then the Medpros can be removed. But, if you still have TDM devices connected to your G650, do NOT remove the MedPros.
If you are decommissioning your G650s, be sure to administratively delete the IPSI and the cabinet using ASA before disconnecting the power and cables. Oddly, you cannot delete the cabinet in CM if CM cannot find the cabinet.
Thankyou after I move the digital, analog, and isdn off of the g650s to the g450s I should be able to remove the Medpros and clans. We are using sip for our trunking so that should be no problem.
