Hi,

Need some help, cant figure out how to fix this problem.

Installed XP Pro in a system with an existing win2k config.
I only want to keep the XP OS but ended up with win2k on on the primary partion c: and XP on the logical partition d: because the win2k was not in the same language as the XP pro I Installed.

Default boot is XP, I removed the dualboot option in bootcfg.

Now I would like to remove the win2k from the C: drive and rename D: -> C: with partion magic.

Will this work? Or is there any other way to make my system contain XP only without starting fresh?

No, it will not work, and you are likely to end up with a non-bootable, non-fixable mess.

Put your XP CD into the CD Rom drive and boot from that into the first R(epair) option, which is "Recovery Console."

In the Recovery Console type:

bootcfg /Rebuild

(Identify only the XP installation)

fixboot c:

exit.

Remove the CD, and boot normally into XP.

You can now use Explorer to delete:
c:\winnt

Any other folder related to Win2k are now fair game for deletion, BUT do not delete files from C:
To move your XP boot and installed directory to C: would require a reformat and full reinstallation of XP.

There is nothing wrong with XP booting from Drive D.
