We have had, as long as I've worked here, a Win2K3 server w/ Exchange 2003 installed on it.

I've been working to get away from this configuration, and now have a new DC placed in the same domain. After transferring master roles, can I uninstall AD from the original server w/ Exchange staying intact??

Thanks,

Chris

Never mind ALL

Sorry, there was a few posts below that have already answered the question.

Thanks!

Dunno which ones you're read, so.

NEVER NEVER NEVER promote or demote a server that has Exchange running on it. Swing Exchange off of it, demote, then swing back.

Nah, you CAN do it. It just means Exchange will stop working.

If you're only doing role transfer, just move the FSMOs to a new box.

Oh sure - take all the fun out of it.

It's not supported for a good reason. Add anther exchange server, move all the mailboxes, decommission the origional exchange, the dcpromo down. It's painful; that's why you shouldn't do it in the first place.
