We are trying to get rid of a child domain from out parent domain...the domain controller for that cild domain was formatted before it was removed from the parent. There are "leftovers" of the child still in our parent domain controller and we are trying to clean our system out. In out AD domains and trusts snap in the child is still listed and we are unable to delete it.

thanks in advance for any help

I belive you can use the ntdsutil tool Cleanup command.

To cleanup metadata left behind by decommissioned or failed domain controllers, use the cleanup command. It removes the defunct domain controller's identification and information from the directory. You might have to run the Dcpromo tool in addition and rename the new domain controller with the same name as the old domain controller. Replication brings the domain controller up to date with regard to its replication partners. CJ

Sorry...

It is ntdsutil(.exe) at a command prompt. CJ
