Hi,
I am trying to lock down an WXP machine. All I want to do is remove all items from the start menu. So when I click on the start menu, there is nothing there. I have got rid of everything, but cannot remove or hide the "programs" folder. I have tried to delete it, hide it, etc, etc. It is still there. Any ideas?
Thanks

in run

gpedit.msc

User configuration
Admin Templates
Start menu and taskbar

I dont think there is anything that will remove the programs listing.. but there are all the other settings you can tweak in there..

BTW thats the group policy editor

You cannot remove it if using the 'Simple" Start Menu, and a careful read of the descriptions in Group Policy states that the policy is only for the simple Start Menu. Use 'Classic' and you can remove hte All programs entry through Group Policy.

Policy: Remove More Programs list from the Start menu
Description: Removes the More Programs list from the Start menu.
Registry Value: "NoStartMenuMorePrograms"

Policy: Remove common program groups from Start Menu
Description: Removes items in the All Users profile from the More Programs list on the Start menu.
Registry Value: "NoCommonGroups"

Remove items in the All Users profile from the Programs menu on the Start menu.
By default, the Programs menu contains items from the All Users profile and items from the user's profile. If you enable this setting, only items in the user's profile appear in the Programs menu.

Remove All Programs list from Start menu
If you enable this setting, the "All Programs" item is removed from the simple Start menu.
If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the "All Programs" item remains on the simple Start menu.
