Removal of a default language

I know this might sound offensive to some that use English(US) but how do I get rid of it from Word 2003? I am a purist that does not like her language adulterated. I copy documents from the web for research and paste them into word so I can read them later. Spelling is a vital part of this and I am a person who does not wish to read everything in American English. Please help if you can!

I tried and failed for Word 2002 - perhaps Microsoft doesn't believe that there are people out there who could manage fine without using US English. Even changing the default language for the machine did no good.

What you can do is create a Word template with the paragraphs defined as UK English. Create new documents from this template before posting to them. You can also put an icon onto your toolbar, if your overall set-up allows you to customise it. The icon looks exactly like the standard 'New', i.e. a blank sheet, but you find it from Tools>Customise as New... in the File section. If you put it well away from the other 'New', you should get used to it and save a lot of time.

If anyone knows of a more general solution, please let me know.

You need to run the Microsoft Office Tools, Microsoft Office Language 2002 Settings utility. Uninstall all languages except English (UK). Close the tool and then launch Word.

With a new blank document open, use Tools, Language and select English (UK) and UNCHECK the Automatically Detect Language option. Press the DEFAULT button. Close Word and you should be prompted to save changes to the global template: answer YES.
