Help,

I have 3 networked (PtP) Win200Pro machines with a whopping total data size of approx 15Gb, and am looking for a simple, fast reliable backup solution.

I am currently doing a daily backup of critical data files, on a weekly rotation with a Zip drive. This is far from perfect, and in particular I dont like the thought of the time required if I have a complete failure- OS install, app install and data restore.

I would like to move to a removable Hard Disk soultion which would be quick enough to backup my entire system (os, apps & data) on a daily basis - on the presumption that if I have a serious failure, that I can be up and running in the minimum amount of time.

I am slightly confused here, I read much about bare metal restores - but(if only one PC was involved) would I not simply be able to swap the duff disk over with the backup "image" disk and start straight away? If this is possible, can I work round the fact that there are 2 other PC to consider?

Also, I was hoping to be able to use 2 disks (or 6 if I require 1 per PC), each doing full (OS/apps/data) backups on alternate days, one permanently being off-site, as I really something as simple as possible. Is this viable as a backup strategy (seems like a fancy expression for something so simple).

If what I am looking for is possible, do you have any suggestions on hardware & software, I have looked at the following;
Accordance ARAID M100,
Iomega REV,
High-Rely 1 bay,
And Casper as software.

I appreciate that I dont really know what I am talking about here, all I know is that I require a SIMPLE, FAST, reliable & bulletproof way of getting my PCs running again.

Thanks for your patience & advice

A removable hard disk solution would be good for you. I recommend get some drive trays for the disks in question.
Something like this:

I recommend using Casper to schedule your copies from one drive to the next. This would fit a "SIMPLE, FAST, reliable & bulletproof way" of getting it done.

Let us know your results!
