remotely determine service pack level

I have a situation where I need to be able to query a server remotely to determine its service pack level. For example, we are using OpenView to monitor a customer's machine and we need it to report back its service pack level for diagnostic puposes. We have no terminal access to this machine and are somewhat loathe to ask the customer to march on out to his server cage and run winver. Though OpenView we can run commands in the cmd.exe context and retrieve the text output, but winver returns a pop-up window with a graphical output.

Any help out there, beyond installing some third-party utility?

On your local Windows 2000 pro. or server, right client MY COMPUTER.

Choose MANAGE (This will open Computer Manager of your machine)

From Computer MAnager, Choose ACTION --> CONNECT TO ANOTHER COMPUTER

Pick the remote computer from the browse list...When Computer MAnager opens, select System Summary. You will be able to see the service pack info here.



Or just go into AD Users and Computers, find the computer, right click and choose MANAGE.

Well, if I could do that, life would be too simple

In this case we are accessing nodes where our rights are limited. We use HP OpenView to monitor the nods in qustion, so there is no method to do precisely what you describe. What I was able to do was use OpenView to view the svcpack.log file, which gave us what we needed, but seemed a bit much to weed through.
