I'd like to use Remote Storage Service to take some of the weight off the server and minimize backup size and time.

I've never used it before so I'm wondering if someone out there can enlighten me:

1. Can you use a hard drive on another computer which is on the lan.

2. Is it possible to use a Linux station thru Samba.

3. Can you filter it to pick up certain files like JPG's, PTT's, DWG's (the biggies).

I find that I'm backing up up about 10 times as much as I probably should be, which translates to 10 times as much Media and 10 times as much time.

Where I work, Interior designers are always dumping loads of digital photo's from job sites (before, after, and during). Suddenly you've lost a half a gig on the server. They insist that they need access to them but I'd like to get them off the server: Remote Storage Service sounds like the perfect solution.

Any info would be appreciated.

Hi TimTang,

Wouldn't you know it...I'm in the same situation with the same question. Let me know if you've found the answer to this.

thx,
g.
