Has anyone ever come across the need to have clients accessing files locally.

IE Floppy disks, CDROM's, Even Burning documents?

Whats the best solution around the issue?

Should the users have a "LIBRARY" pc where they store documents etc?

If users are all running on Citrix obviously local access would be appaulingly slow, especially for large files.

Is there a solution? Should it just be all handled by the service desk and couriered to the clients on request?

Also, what about document scanning solutions for online libraries, does anyone know if these are supported over the citrix solution?!?!

Any suggestions? Hope you can help!

Hi,

My users access their local drives as they are remote and home workers without too much of an issue.

However, you can't write information from Citrix to your local CDROM writer, Citrix only sees it as a read only device, so your users will have to write the files to the hard drive or other medium and then write the files locally when logged out of Citrix.

For large documents it can take a while. I don't think that your service desk will be able to transfer from a server to your clients drive via Citrix but you could set up the C Drive to be shared (not sure about CDROM writers). This may be a pain if you have lots of remote PC's/laptops but if they are all accessible then this shouldn't be too hard.

As for scanning, if you get a network scanner and then run the client software, that will work, I've set some HP network scanners up in the past that scan in, then email the documents to the user, can't remember which model though!

I've seen posts about scanning on this forum so it may be worth doing a search or two!

Hope this helps,
Carl.
