I'm having difficulty managing some client computers through the AD users & computers snap-in on our server. I can connect to 2k and some XPP machines but not all, the error message is that 'xcomputer cannot be managed'.
I've compared services running and user accounts on all machines and they appear identical. Anyone have any ideas?

Check that you have local admin rights on the workstations in question. By default Domain Admins are a member of the Local Admins group when a machine is added to the domain, but that does not mean it wasn't changed by someone else, especially if your users are local administrators.

Also check the permissions on the computer object itself - there may be some permission issues as well.

Thanks tried that - even with explicit local admin account set up I am still having problems. Checked permissions and they seem identical between PC's, only some work and others don't! One thing I've just noticed though is that the computers that I am unable to manage seem to drop out of network neighbourhood view occasionally. Connected? Still able to ping and connect to local shares though.

Remote Registry Service and the admin shares (Primarily IPC$, C$, and Admin$) are intact as well I assume?

Yes - Remote Registry service running and admin shares all seem intact.
