Hello, I've read and re-read the instructions on configuring my Windows 2000 server box to allow incoming dial-up connections to the server. Unfortunately, after trying nearly all configurations, I am unable to login to the server via dialup.

Symptoms: Connects and verifies username and password, but disconnects after 5 seconds with "Disconnected from Remote computer".

Server Configuration: AD
Permissions: Admin, Domain Admin, *allow remote access
enabled*
username: joe
password: shmoe
Domain: LPQT

Client side: DUN Configuration (Win Me)
username: joe
password: shmoe
Log in to domain: checked
Domain: LPQT

I tried diffferent authentication methods such as CHAP, MS-CHAP, and all others; even no authentication, but the symptoms are the same. Please help!

is there any policies applying to that user? A+, MCP, CCNA

Keep fighting for your knowledge!

Koquito, thanks for replying. I am not doing group policies but from my understanding there is nothing that is restricting the user from logging in remotely. Any other suggestions? If there were policies affecting the user, would it be anywhere that I wouldn't know about, such as a hidden registry setting (who knows), the default group policy, or in active directory?

Active Directory > Users and Computers > Users ....

Double click on your user who is trying to connect remotely to open their account

Go to "Remote Access" tab and make sure "Allow Remote Access" is checked

Might want to try a different modem on the client side. Could be a hardware issuse. I have seen this happen before where the modem would connect and get in for a while then disconnect for no reason. I changed modems in client and it worked like a champ. It seems to me that your config looks good, so I would try new hardware at the client first if that doesnt resolve put in same brand of new modem in server that you put in the client and try it that way. Good luck
