Remote Dial-Ups Dropping

I am having a problem with remote employees dialing up into the system and out of no where they drop for reason at all. Some complain of not being able to connect for serveral try's. Is there some kinda timeout that i have looked over or is MS dial-up not really that great. Would it be better for me to look for some kinda third party client/server. All the machine that are dialup are 2000 machines and the server is a NT4 box. Any help would be greatly appciated.
