Hi,

I am having trouble with remote desktop. The last few weeks it has worked fine, but the only thing that has changed is I have installed Syamntec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition on the server and the computers on Friday. Seemed before that it worked. Here is the setup, small office network, server with Win2K3 SBS Standard, about 9 desktops running windows xp pro. All the computers have Remote Desktop/Assistance enabled. I VPN in (which I use the vpn software built into the server) and then I use remote desktop here on my laptop. Type in the computer name and it used to work. The server works just fine using RD from my laptop, but any of the other computers I try to access on the network, I can't Any ideas?>

Remote desktop uses port 3389. Have you exempted that port in Symantec's antivirus on each workstation?

We use eTrust InoculateIT and had to exempt port 3389 in the antivirus on all workstations in order to use RDP.

Cheers.

Hmm, I dont know where I would go to configure that. I looked in MS Firewall and see that remote desktop is allowed to go through, but where would I do it on NAV? Second, why does going to the server work over the VPN but nothing else. Also, it works locally. So if I am on my desktop at work, and I want to get to another workstation in the building RD works just fine.

Sorry, I don't use NAV so I don't know where to configure it. I also didn't realize that it worked fine locally.

I still think its related to NAV blocking something though as that's the only thing that has changed.

Cheers.

Ive uninstalled NAV on my desktop and it doesn't work either.
Hmm maybe someone else will havesome answers.

Hi,

Yes it is. I have the domain in the domain field when you setup the RD connection. I am going to reboot the server this morning and see if that does anything. I was thinking its weird that I can RD to the server but no where else when I am VPNed in. So I thought maybe since the server was the VPN server that it wasnt passing the packets along. I can ping the other hosts that I want to get too, but its only like 50% return so I think the server has something to do with it. Any other ideas?

Yay! I fixed it. I just restarted the remote acces & routing in Win2k3 SBS. I thought it was weird I could access the server but no one else on RD, and I knew it couldn't be the AV cause I had AV installed on the server as well. But since I was VPNed in, and I could get to the server and no where else, that made since, since the Remote Access/Routing wasnt doing it job in routing me to my computer I needed and not the server. Thanks for your help ghouth everyone!
