Hi All,

racking my little mind over this.

I was an early adopter of SP3. RDC expired, no problem, installed full release of SP3 and the RDC issue went away.

some time ago, my remote desktop client expiration reared its head again. Its no longer in Beta / RTM etc.

has anyone actualy managed to resolve this, as I have hunted the internet high and low......

thanks in advance!

You have to find a working SP2 machine and find the files mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from windows/system32. Also mstsc.exe.mui and mstscax.dll.mui from windows/system32/en-us.

Copy those 4 files, boot your messed up PC in SAFE MODE. And replace these 4 files you copied from the SP2 machine. YOU HAVE TO BE IN SAFE MODE on the PC you are copying the file to or it wont work.

You would have seen these type of workarounds, I suppose, from when this problem first began occurring last year?

windows xp remote desktop pre-release version expired???

A solution might be to slipstream SP3 with a XP CD that is at SP2 and then repair your current operating system using the newly created CD. Alternatively you could just do the repair and add in SP3 at a later time.

Repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

As there is unlikely to be anymore Service Packs for XP, it would be a good idea to have a slipstreamed SP3 XP CD as a repair option for the future, if you are otherwise happy with SP3 on your machine.
