Hi,
I have a problem where if i log into a remote machine within the network, upon closing the session, the remote machine locks itself and only the administrator can unlock it. Is there a way where i can use remote desktop connection so it does not lock the machine and restores the users original screen. Both machines using XP Pro on windows 2003 domain

Or you just disconnecting or logging off the session when finished?

Click Start > Log off when you've finished the session to prevent this happening. Clicking the X to disconnect keeps the session 'active' and will lock the computer.

outona limb is right, you must log out of the service not just click the X on the GUI window or you'll take up a terminal, inharently there are only two...

One thing I do for my servers is set the terminal service to disconnect if there is no activity after 15 minutes....
