Can you explain the problem? Most likely it has to do with your access in SMS. Joseph L. Poandl

Hi Jpoandl

Fistly i wish to thank for your respone. Below is my problem explaination.

I have a SMS server, which was running well at that server it self. That's mean no problem in software, hardware inventory, remote control, software distribution and generate report.

Now our company wanna form a helpdesk support team to supprot 500 plus workstation in our company via SMS. So now i try to install SMS administrator console in our helpdesk support workstation.

After finish installing and tested up the SMS administrator console at helpdesk workstation, i found that one of the SMS function not function, that is remote control tools. Once i run this function, it alway cannot connect to client workstion (no error message). But i didn't have this problem when run this function in fround of server.

Installing Procedure:
I just using SMS CD run the setup and choose "SMS Administrator Console" option during setup. It that i forget some step?

I hope with this explaination, you can more understand my problem and help me solve this problem.

Thank you

Best regards
Anthony

OK...I think I understand the situation.

1) SMS Site server was installed.
2) SMS was deployed to client machines...everything was working at this point.
3) After installing the SMS Administrators Console on a workstation, it was noticed that remote control did not work from the workstation.

I'll be honest, I've never encountered this type of error. It does sound like your installed the SMS Adminstrators Console properly. Let me ask some questions:

1) After loading the SMS Administrators Console on the workstation, are you able to connect to your SMs site? (You should be able to see the collections, site settings, packages, etc.) If not, you may have a rights issue. Try logging into the workstation as ADMINISTRATOR and then launch the SMS administrators console. See if there is a change in your abilities...

2) What OS are the help desk workstations? (NT or 2K) [The SMS administrators Console will not work with 9x machines.]

3) Is the service pack running in your site different from the SMS service pack used to install the SMS Administrators console? If they are not the same, you may want to slip stream your SMS CD-rom with the same SMS service pack used in your site.

4) Try to install the SMS administrators console on a different machine. Try to see if there is any difference.

-I hope some of this helps...

Hi Jpoandl

Yes, i able to see able to see the collections, site settings, packages, etc. Infact i have try 4 unit workstation.

Server Enviroment
OS: Windows NT4 server(SP4)
SMS 2.0 (SP2)

Workstation Enviroment
OS: Windows NT4 Workstation (SP4/SP6)

I think may be you are right, the SMS service pack used to install the SMS Administrators console are not the same, because last time i install it with SMS CD with SP2, but now i install it from Microsoft Select CD with no (SP). Due to i'm out station, in this coming friday i will try on it and let you know whether that's a cause for this issue.

Anyway thank from your help, hope your solution will solve my problem.

Best Regards
Anthony

Making sure the SP packs match between the server and the admin console should solve the problem. I ran into a similiar problem when I installed sp3 admin tools while my server was still on sp2.

Hi Jpoandl and olydus

Thank for provide me solution, now i have solve the problem via you all valueable solution. I comfrim this problem occur is due to Service packs issue.

I facing one problem right now, when i using a user account with SMS server (SMSAdmin right) and domain (normall user) to remote control other workstation (NT), the remote control service require me to enter a user name, domain and password. It's that any way to enable this remote control service work without entering this information. I mean without using the domain admin/local admin (NT workstation) account right for that praticular user. How can i done this tast without using domain admin/local admin (NT workstation) accout right.

Thank you

Best Regards
Anthony

I've seen this a few times, when I try to remote control machines that are behind a FIREWALL. I found that I had to open additional ports so that SMS "talked" through the firewall properly.

However, if this is happening on all your machines, I suspect maybe your security is not setup yet...
